Superman & Lois, one of the few CW shows to survive the slew of cuts the network did in wake of its sale, will have a new actor playing Clark and Lois’ son, Jonathan Kent.
According to Variety, Jordan Elsass—who was cast along with Alexander Garfin as Superman’s teenage sons—will not be returning for the show’s third season.
Warner Bros. Television cited “personal reasons” for Elsass’ departure in a statement released last night: “Jordan Elsass has notified the Studio that he will not be returning to Superman & Lois for Season 3 due to personal reasons,” the studio said. “The role of Jonathan Kent will be recast.”
Jonathan Kent is the more sociable of Clark and Lois’ two children, and has been described by publicists as having an “aw-shucks” attitude. We don’t have details beyond the above on why Elsass is leaving the series, though Variety got confirmation that the actor wasn’t leaving because of a work-related issue. Season two of the Arrowverse show ended about six weeks ago, and the third season is expected to start production soon in Vancouver.
We have no news yet on who will replace Elsass on the series, though it’s likely the recasting will take place quickly so it doesn’t disrupt the show’s production schedule. We also don’t know when season three of the series will premiere on the CW, though it will likely come out sometime in early 2023.
